I'll be honest, I have done a lot of camping but the vast majority of that comes from car camping though I have done some "survivalist" or minimalist camping. Survivalist camping, in my experience, is camping with what you have with you whether you meant to go camping like this or not. So what's the draw of "survivalist" or minimalist camping?
Packing Is Easy
Alright, this probably isn't the main reason for the survivalist camper though the minimalist camper certain would! Even I fall into the trap of packing more and more on my car camping trips to the point where I lose the purpose of camping; to break away from all these frills in life! It can be very relaxing and especially gratifying to just get back to the basics; food, clothing, shelter, and even a fire if you want.
Adventure
Believe it or not, there are people who will do this for the adventure of it. To pack just the bare necessities and go out to survive on the land for a specified amount of time or as long as they can. For those campers, it is the ultimate adventure and maybe even their preferred way of living. A great example of this would be backpacking. Who wouldn't want to see the world living out of a backpack?
Experience
Probably the biggest draw to this style of camping is the experience it brings you. You will learn how to make do with what you have, where you are, which can be a very useful skill should you ever need it. I know what you're thinking, "why would I ever be in a situation like that?" and to be honest, every person who has found themselves in that situation has probably said that themselves.
